We have been installing UV products and air purifiers for years, but in current times, indoor air quality has never been a bigger topic! Starting last spring, availability of products was delayed up to six months – ever tried to buy a snow shovel in a blizzard??
There are many great products on the market today, for all types of applications. There was a time when you really needed a ducted system to be able to get any real air purifiers; and if your ducted system was for either heat only or air conditioning only, any air quality products only worked for half the year – not such a great deal. Fortunately, that is no longer true!
Air purifiers can be added to ducted, non-ducted (mini-splits), or even hydronic or steam heat systems. Some of the higher quality units – cold plasma generators – are up to 99.4% effective against the COVID19, SARS-CoV-2, and other pollutants. They also control dust, dander, and pollen; they can neutralize germs, airborne microbes such as bacteria, viruses, mold and fungal; they can even remove smoke, odors, and toxic fumes that can cause formicary corrosion that create high levels of VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds – created by household cleaning products and disinfectants, aerosol sprays, paint, air fresheners, moth repellants, etc.). In the home, VOC’s are the biggest threat to air conditioning coils and piping, resulting in one of the biggest causes of premature failure. Hmm…how old might a system to be for a failure to be considered premature? Less than 10 years old? We’ve seen failures occur on five- and six-year-old systems!
Even before todays concerns became what they are in regards to eliminating germs and keeping the air you breathe safe and healthy, there are many other benefits to adding a UV filtration, or air purifying system to your home!
